This post takes a trip into the world of “sun(ny)” songs. A selection of 40 songs contained in two playlists.
The first one kicks off in 1939, travelling through the ‘50s, ‘70, ‘80s, ‘90s, and coming to a close in 2004. Music by Simply Red, The Police, Sheryl Crow, Blondie, and many more.
The second playlist departs in 1965, heading toward the ‘70s, dwells briefly in the ‘80s, to stay in the ‘90s for quite some songs and to finally wrap things up in the early noughties. Music by Smash Mouth, U2, Terry Jacks, Katrina & The Waves, and many more.
Please enjoy.
A wonderful (and my favourite) cover version of The Kinks’ 1967 UK classic “Waterloo Sunset”. It’s from Cathy Dennis’ 1997 Am I the Kinda Girl? album. Her version made it to #11 on the UK pop chart (The Kinks original peaked at #2).

A beastly good video by Weezer. “Island in the Sun” from their 2001 album Weezer (green album).
