Why This Blog?
Music And ColorsHi there music lover!
Welcome on my blog called Sounds And Colors.
I assume you like music (too). As for me, music is my passion. And it’s a wonderful thing to take a deep dive into the world of (musical) sounds.
Soundscapes is what I like to call them. And I love to travel through time and wander those musical landscapes.
Sounds And Colors – why this title?
Because I love both, and it’s helluva fun to pair them up.
Some time ago, I discovered a podcast called Everything Old Is New Again
This title hits the nail on the head. Like landscapes, over time sound(scapes) morph and change over and over again. “Old” stuff might resurface again.
Like in fashion, in music(fashion) sounds and musical trends come and go and come and go again.
With music streaming services like Spotify (the one I have choosen), Amazon Music, Apple Music and others, it was never easier, less expensive, and convenient to discover and enjoy “old” and “new” music from all kinds of genres and decades.
One of my passions these days is to travel through time, charts, and music genres and compile my own Spotify playlists.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about music and broaden one’s musical horizons (and beyond).
And maybe connect with like-minded people like you.
This blog should become a place to share some of my Spotify playlists and thoughts about them.
This is a “no-holds-barred” approach
Everything goes. Each genre, each decade. Primarily from the 1940s to the early 2000s.
How bout the years after 2005ish?
Filesharing and streaming services (beginning in the noughties) changed the music industry dramatically. And also the way music is consumed in this day and age.
Like many things in life, this has its upsides and downsides. These changes are reflected in today’s music charts. At least the once I grew up with.
First of all, Billboard magazine and its Billboard charts (with the Billboard Hot 100 as its flagship).
Since the early ‘80s the Billboard Hot 100 have been my musical sanctuary.
I used to compile very comprehensive playlists
The longest collection of songs I put together included almost 500 songs with more than 34 hours of music.
Which one was that?
Full disclosure. It was one with songs of my favorite years, music from the early 1980s Billboard Charts (1980 – 1983). A comprehensive selection of songs stacked with pop jewels!
But then I thought, those momumental collections might be too overwhelming and smaller servings might be more appropriate and easier to digest.
So I decided to confine playlist length to around 75 minutes (the maximum runtime of a CD) and create (if necessary) kind of playlist series (vol. 1, 2, 3 …).
And I can tell you. The more I do it, the more I love it …
When it comes to music consumption, I have gone completely digital
I haven’t heard a CD or vinyl record in years and decades respectively.
Personally, I appreciate the convenience, usability, and availability of digital music streaming services.
Yes, I know, sound quality of vinyl and CD might be better, but, personally, I don’t care about that.
So, that’s it for here and now
Thank you for dropping by and reading those lines.
Maybe I can inspire you to take your own journeys into the world of music and create or enhance your own playlists to your liking.
Let’s have Abba and their timeless music now have the final say.

“Thank You for the Music” by ABBA from their eponymous 1983 album. It wasn’t one of their biggest hits. The song peaked at #33 in the UK. Who cares …
The message of this beautiful song is timeless and will for sure survive many chart toppers.
